Довольно быстро написав шесть романов цикла, Роберт Асприн подписал контракт на следующие шесть, и, по его признанию, с огромным трудом написал ещё четыре, но где-то в 1993 году был втянут в затянувшуюся холодную финансовую войну с налоговой инспекцией, из-за чего очень надолго оставил работу над книгами серии. В 2001 году Асприн с большим трудом вернулся к приключениям любимых героев, написав книгу «МИФфия невыполнима» (Myth-Ion Improbable), а год спустя выполнил-таки условия контракта (к этому времени, кстати, перекупленного другим издательством) и написал завершающую книгу двенадцатикнижья «Нечто оМИФфигенное» / «Что-то мифическое» (Something M. Y. T. H. Inc.). На этом, впрочем, сериал не закончился, последующие произведения серии Асприн пишет в соавторстве с Джоди Линн Най (Jody Lynn Nye). Из других его работ выделяется юмористический НФ-сериал о капитане Уилларде Шутте (Phule's Saga) и в высшей степени невнятный сериал «Мошенники времени» написанный в соавторстве с Линдой Эванс (Linda Evans). Ещё одна заметная веха в творческом пути Асприна — редактирование многотомной серии «Мир воров» (Thieves' World), для которой между делом писало рассказы большое количество не очень известных американских писателей-фантастов.

I stared at the candle in the brass holder in the middle of the cluttered table. Light the candle, I thought, concentrating hard. Light it! Anyone who might have looked in the window would have seen a young, blond man from Klah, if they knew Klah, gazing hard at an unlit candle. Anyone from a few dozen dimensions might have identified that young man as The Great Skeeve, Magician to Kings and King of Magicians. None of them would have guessed that in spite of my reputation, which was that of a wonderworker, diplomat and organizer, as far as magik went, I was still a pretty rank… apprentice. Apprentice. I sat upright on my bench to rub my back, and gazed at nothing in particular. The term caused all kinds of emotions to well up in me and distract me from my self-assigned task. The first: regret. I just walked away from my entire life to date: money, a position as Court Magician I could have held on to infinitely just on my reputation, a business that was thriving even beyond my ability to cover all the opportunities that came my way. But the thing I most regretted leaving was friends. The best and most important friend I had left behind was the chief reason I had gone. Aahz, denizen of the dimension Perv, had been my mentor, guide, partner, teacher and, yes, friend, since the untimely death of my master, the magician Garkin, who’d just finished this very lesson when he’d been killed by an assassin. . . .

It has been said that every great man deserves a biographer. I have therefore taken it upon myself to keep a private record of my employer’s activities during his career in the Space Legion. If there are those who would, perhaps, contest his qualifications as a great man, I would answer that he is the closest thing to a great man that it has been my privilege to associate with on close enough terms to keep such a journal. I would further point out that, in certain circles, Genghis Kahn and Geronimo are considered to be great men. To introduce myself, I am a gentleman’s gentleman, or what would be referred to in military circles as a batman. (For the less literate-minded, I would ask that you refrain from associating that label with any comic book character you might be familiar with. I have always felt that capes were an unnecessary fashion statement and have endeavored to discourage my employers from resorting to such tacky, attention-seeking ploys.) I am called Beeker, and neither require nor seek additional titles of address. Although I was with my employer since the time of his enlistment and before, I feel that the truly noteworthy portion of his career began at his court-martial. To be specific, at his first court-martial. . . .
